Visite au Tombeau de Délia Tétreault - Visit to the Shrine of Delia Tétreault

Aujourd'hui, je suis allé à la messe dans la chapelle des Missionnaires de l'Immaculée Conception qui était célébrée à la mémoire de mon oncle Yvon Bélanger, militaire canadien. Au sortir de la chapelle j'ai visité le tombeau de Délia Tétrault.

Today, I went to Mass in the chapel of the Missionaries of the Immaculate Conception which was celebrated in memory of my uncle Yvon Bélanger, Canadian military. After mass I visited the shrine of Delia Tétrault.



Si vous venez de l'extérieur, vous devez gravir les escaliers du vestibule pour vous rendre au tombeau.If you come from outside, you must climb the stairs from the entrance hall to reach the shrine.




La porte de la chapelle funéraire est presque toujours ouverte en signe d'accueil.
The door of the funeral chapel is almost always open as a sign of welcome.




Vous apercevez immédiatement, le tombeau de marbre qui contient la tombe dans laquelle reposent les restes de la fondatrice.

You can immediately see , the marble tomb which contains the casket in which lies the remains of the founder



Devant le tombeau, un médaillon représente un encensoir à droite qui figure l'Esprit, puis à gauche, La Vierge Marie et le Globe terresre domaine des missions des MIC.

In front of the tomb, a medallion with an incense burner on the right symbolizing the Holy Spirit, then, on the left side : the Virgin Mary and the Terrestrial Globe symbolizing the missions of the MIC.



Sur le dessus du tombeau, on peut aussi lire l'inscription suivante : Les restes mortels de Délia Tétreault (Mère Marie-Du-Saint-Esprit)Fondatrice de l'Institut des Soeurs Missionnaires de l'Immaculée-Conception.

On the top of the tomb, you can also read the inscription : The mortal remains of Delia Tetreault (Mother Marie-du-Saint-Esprit) Founder of the Institute of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate-Conception.



Sur le dessus du tombeau, à gauche, se trouve un cadre dans lequel une reproduction d'un document se trouvant dans un scapulaire porté par la défunte est accompagné des explications suivantes : Longtemps après la mort de notre vénérée Fondatrice, on découvrit que le scapulaire, qu'elle avait portée jusqu'à la fin, contenait un feuillet manuscrit aux plis et aux contours usés. Un long travail de déchiffrement a permis, d'en reconstituer les lignes. Ci-dessous : conclusion de l'acte d'amour parfait écrit de la main de Délia Tétreault : Je veux que ce papier ne me quitte jamais, jamais et descende avec moi dans la tombe afin que du fond de mon sépulcre et de mes ossements décharnés, s'élève une voix qui s'écrie : Je vous aime, ô mon Dieu, Je vous aime!

On top left side of the top of the tomb, is a framework within which you can see a reproduction of a decue located in a capular worn by the deceased accompanied by the following explanations : Long after the death of our venerated Founder, it was discovered that the scapular, that she had worn until the end, contained a hand written sheet with worn folds and sides. A long process of deciphering had permit to rebuild the lines. Below: conclusion of the perfect act of love written by the hand of Delia Tétreault: I want this paper never leaves me, never and goes down with me in the grave so that in the bottom of my tomb and from my emaciated bones , a voice can rise and cry out: I love you, oh my God, I love you!





Dans la fenêtre au dessus du tombeau, on peut admirer un vitrail représentant un rêve d'enfance de la jeune Délia dans lequel des épis de blés dans un champ, se changent en têtes d'enfants provenant de toutes les nations du monde.

In the window above the tomb, one can see a stained glass window depicting a childhood dream of the young Delia in which ears of wheat in a field, turn into heads of children from all nations of the world.

À la gauche du tombeau, une niche recouverte d'une porte dorée contient le coeur de la fondatrice. Sous la niche une inscription contient le texte suivant : Ici est déposé le coeur de la fondatrice Très Révérende Mère Marie-Du-Saint-Esprit Fondatrice de l'Institut des Soeurs Missionnaires de l'Immaculée-Conception décédée le premier octobre 1941.


To the left of the tomb, a niche covered with a golden door contains the heart of the founder. Under the niche a text contains the following explanation : Here lies the heart of the Foundress Very Reverend Mother Marie-du-Saint-Esprit Founder of the Institute of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception who died on October first 1941.











Au dessus de la porte de la chapelle funéraire se situe le symbole marial qui est le thème de l'iconographie des fenêtres des portes du couvent : Magnificat Anima Mea Dominum.

Above the door of the funeral chapel is the symbol of Mary who is the subject of the iconography of the windows of the doors of the convent: Magnificat Anima Mea Dominum.



Quand nous sortons de la chapelle funéraire, une grande pièce conventuelle se trouve à droite de la grande chapelle du couvent. En voici la porte.

When we leave the funeral chapel, a large conventual room is on the right of the main chapel of the convent. Here is the door of this room.




Dans la pièce se trouve une grande table sur laquelle l'inventaire des restes de Délia Tétrault a été effectué lors de l'expertise qui a été effectuée à l'occasion de la translation des restes de la fondatrice du cimetière des soeurs vers la chapelle funéraire actuelle.

In the room is a large table on which the inventory of the remains of Delia Tetrault has been made during the expertise that has been performed at the occasion of the translation of the remains of the founder from the cemetery of the Sisters to the actual funeral chapel.




Il y a aussi un portrait peint de la fondatrice.

Quand j'ai quitté le couvent, je suis allé visiter le cimetière des soeurs.
When I have left the convent I went to visit the cemetary of the sisters.





On y trouve un calvaire avec un Christ en croix. C'est près de ce calvaire qu'était enterré la fondatrice.
You can find a calvary with a Christ on the cross. The founder's first resting place was near this calvary.




En me dirigeant vers la sortie du cimetière je me suis recueilli sur la tombe de Soeur Anna Mercier 1893-1985 : Soeur Marie-De-L'Ascension. Elle me rappelle tellement de bons souvenirs car j'ai mis les pieds au couvent quand j'avais trois ans pour la première fois. C'était ma troisième grand-mère. Je l'aime beaucoup. À sa mort en 1985, j'avais 28 ans. On m'a demandé de faire son éloge funèbre. Ce fut avec beaucoup d'émotion que je me suis acquitté de cette tâche. Comme elle avait connu la fondatrice, j'aimais l'entendre me raconter l'histoire ancienne de la communauté. Mais c'était surtout une grande âme de tendresse et de compassion.

As I headed for the exit of the cemetery I took a moment of meditation and prayer over the tomb of Sister Anna Mercier 1893-1985: Sister Mary-Of-The-Ascension. It reminds me of so many good memories. The first time I came to visit the convent I was three years old little man. She was my third grandmother. At the moment of her death in 1985, I was 28 years old : so I have known her during 25 years. I was asked to do her eulogy. It was with great emotion that I have accomplished this task. As she had known the founder, I loved to hear me tell the history of the community. But over all her knowledge she was a great soul of tenderness and compassion.




Vous comprenez maintenant un peu plus pourquoi je suis si attaché à la presqu'île :

- Ma tante préférée y habite.
- Ma troisième grand-mère y est enterrée.
- Mon ami d'enfance l'abbé Millaire (celui qui a célébré mes fiancailles) y est enterré.
- J'ai célébré la cérémonie funèbre de l'épandage des cendres de la mère de mon meilleure ami d'enfance dans la Rivière des Prairies : Madame Bachant-Flanagan à cet endroit.

Je connais plusieurs missionnaires.

Je considère la presqu'île comme mon âme et un territoire sacré dans lequel tout être vivant est relié par la même âme à la mienne. Il n'y a pas d'entroit au monde qui ressemble le plus à ce que je suis et ce que je ressens

You understand now a little bit more why I am so committed to the peninsula:

- My favorite aunt lives there.
- My third grandmother is buried there.
- My friend the abbot Millaire (who had celebrated my engagement) is buried there.
- I have celebrated the funeral ceremony of the spreading of the ashes of the mother of my best childhood friend here in the Rivière des Prairies: Mrs. Flanagan-Bachant.

I know many missionnaries.

I see the peninsula as my soul and a sacred territory in which any living being is connected by the same soul to mine. There is no place in the entire world that is most like what I deeply am and what I deeply than this place.

Dans la presqu'île, quand je touche la terre, la terre me touche. Quand je regarde le ciel, le ciel me regarde.
In the peninsula, when I toutch the earth, the earth is toutching me and when I look at the sky the sky looks at me.




Ce sont mes cieux. Ce sont mes arbres. Mes animaux et la rivière coule à travers moi.
These are my skies, my trees, my animals and the river runs through my soul.

Fleurs De Trèfle Blanc Émergeant À Travers Feuilles - Flowers Of White Clover Emerging Trough The Leaves

Ah le trèfle de Hollande (Trifolium repens L. 1753).

Que j'aime la beauté rassurante des fleurs de trèfle blanc. Souvent blanche et parfois rosée, son inflorescence émerge du bout de ses tiges entre les feuilles des autres plantes du sous bois et des champs. C'est l'une des espèces les plus répandues du genre Trifolium et nous en dégustons le nectar par le biais du miel des abeilles butineuses. C'est une plante très basse à tige rampante, de là son intérêt de placer ses fleurs au bout d'un assez longue tige afin de s'assurer d'une pollinisation efficace. Ses feuilles sont le symbole de la chance : faut-il dire que la chance est courante car cette plante est très répandue. À chaque fois que je croise du trèfle, j'en suis ému. J'ai toujours l'impression d'être béni des dieux de faire une telle rencontre et pourtant, le trèfle est partout où l'on passe.

Ah, the Dutch clover (Trifolium repens L. 1753).

I like the comforting beauty of the flowers of white clover. Often white, sometimes pink, its inflorescence emerges from the end of the stems between the leaves of other plants in the woods and fields. This is one of the most widespread species of the genus Trifolium, and we taste the nectar by honey bees foraging. This plant is very low and creeping, hence its interest to place flowers at the end of a fairly long stem to ensure effective pollination. Its leaves are a symbol of luck: does it say that luck is running because this plant is widespread. Whenever I meet clover, I am moved. I always feel blessed by the gods to such a meeting, yet the club is almost everywhere we go.

Fleurs hermaphrodites groupées en têtes sphériques à long pédoncule. Hermaphrodite flowers clustered in spherical heads long stalk. They are normally white, sometimes pink, with a banner erected, pending they start to fade (it is not uncommon to see inflorescences whose lower half has flowers inclined, while the upper half bears flowers erected ). Calyx five small teeth. Pollination is done by bees (flower nectar). Flowering lasts from April-May to September.

La Bibliothèque Des Pères Des Missions Étrangères - The Library of the Fathers of the Foreign Missions

Dans la presqu'île, il y a deux bibliothèques : celle des MIC et celle des PME.

Ce sont deux bibliothèques à vocation théologique et missionnaire.
Dans ces lieux, il est toujours agréable de constater une ambiance de paix et d'érudition tranquille. Voici quelques photos d'ambiance effectuées dans la bibliothèque des PME :

In the peninsula, there are two libraries: the MIC (Sisters of the Immaculate Conception) and that of PME (Fathers of Foreign Missions).

These are two libraries in theological and missionary vocation.
In these places, it is always nice to see an atmosphere of peace and quiet erudition. Here are some photos taken of atmosphere in the library of the PME :




C'est ici que les jeunes séminaristes venaient se documenter afin de préparer leur départ en mission vers d'autres pays.

This is where the young seminarians are coming to look for some documentation to prepare their departure on catholic missions to other countries.



Ces lieux de culture donnent une intensité à la presqu'île qui devient à la fois un lieu naturel avec sa faune et sa flore et un lieu culturel à saveur patrimoniale.

These places provide some intensity to the peninsula that becomes at once a natural place with its flora and fauna and a space with a cultural heritage flavor.

En Guise De Présentation Des Nuages - By Way Of Introduction To The Clouds

Les nuages du jour furent riche et gonflés d'humidité dans un ciel d'azur au dessus de la presqu'ile.Today the clouds were inflated and rich, full of moisture in the blue sky above the peninsula.



Ils n'étaient pas tristes et poignants comme les nuages du dernier passage de nos soldats. Ils furent plutôt riches et musclés comme les nuages de Michel-Ange. De vrais nuages types du ciel d'été comme on les savoure à des millions d'exemplaires en Amérique du Nord et partout dans le monde.

They were not sad and poignant as the clouds of the last passage of our soldiers. They were rather wealthy and muscular like the clouds of Michelangelo. Real clouds, typical of the summer sky as they are to enjoy in a million of copies in North America and around the world.

Lors d'une conférence tenue à Québec en 1921, pour répondre à l'appel lancé par le pape Benoit XV en faveur de la propagation de la foi (lettre apostolique Maximum illud, nov. 30, 1919), la Fondatrice des Soeurs Missionnaires de l'Immaculée Conception, Délia Tétreault, avait besoin d'une société de prêtres capable de seconder ses soeurs en mission à l'étranger, elle fit plusieurs démarches et des pressions auprès des évêques du Québec pour les convaincre et y parvint. En réponse à la lettre apostolique du Pape et aux pressions de Délia Tétreault, les évêques du Québec décidèrent de participer collectivement au mouvement missionnaire catholique en fondant une société de prêtres diocésains canadiens-français voués aux missions étrangères.

At a conference held in Quebec in 1921, to respond to the call by Pope Benedict XV for the propagation of the faith (Apostolic letter Maximum illud, 30 November 1919), the foundress of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, Delia Tétreault, needed a society of priests able to assist her sisters on a mission abroad, she made several efforts and lobbying in front of the Quebec bishops to convince them and she succeeded. In response to the apostolic letter of the Pope and the pressures of Delia Tétreault, the bishops of Quebec decided to participate collectively in the Catholic missionary movement by founding a society of diocesan priests dedicated french-canadian foreign missions.

Le chanoine Avila Roch, curé de la cathédrale de Joliette, au Québec, fut alors nommé responsable de la nouvelle société et en demeura le supérieur général jusqu'à sa mort (1940).

Les premiers missionnaires partirent pour la Mandchourie (Chine) en 1925. La société a oeuvré également en Argentine, au Chili, en Colombie, à Cuba, au Honduras, au Japon, au Pérou et aux Philippines. En 1998, elle comptait 207 membres.Au fil des ans, le visage de la Société des Missions-Étrangères s'est transformé pour accueillir en plus des membres perpétuels (les pères) des associé-e-s aussi envoyés comme missionnaires laïques.

The first missionaries left for Manchuria (China) in 1925. The company has also worked in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Honduras, Japan, Peru and the Philippines. In 1998, there were 207 membres. Over the years, the face of the Society of Foreign Missions has been transformed in order to accommodate more members in perpetuity (the fathers) and some associates also sent as lay missionaries.
